AMERICAN ELECTRIC POWER CO INC is a public utility holding company that owns and manages subsidiaries engaged in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. It provides electric generation, wholesale and retail power sales, transmission and distribution delivery services, centralized generation dispatch, fuel procurement, energy marketing and trading, and retail energy supply. The company operates through four reportable segments: Vertically Integrated Utilities; Transmission and Distribution Utilities; AEP Transmission Holdco; and Generation & Marketing. Its subsidiaries serve retail and wholesale customers across portions of Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia and participate in regional transmission organizations (PJM, SPP, ERCOT) and related wholesale markets.
